Conil provides some decent waves around the river mouth on an incoming tide and if the banks are right. A more popular place to surf is called El Palmar which is a 10 minute drive to the South. You can also walk along the beach and find some uncrowded banks between Conil and El Palmar if you have the energy. On the low tide it usually closes out but mid to high tide is usually better. The wave itself often folds a bit and is better suited to longboards.
The best time to surf Conil is between Novermber and April. Winter swells are pushed into the bay from the South and the winds are more often offhore. North East if offfshore and the more prevailant wind in winter. December and January are usually quite good and consitant but like any time of the year keep your eyes on the charts. The water temperature is usually mild throughout the year and at most a 3 mm wetsuit in winter will suffice although a tight fitting 2 mm should be OK all year around.. I usually surf in a 2mm all your around and in summer baggies are the best but seldom are there any waves. Conil is best for longboarding unless there is a really solid swell.
Conil has a variety of surfshops that sell everything you need from wetsuits, fins and leashes to surfboards themselves. There are also a few surf schools that usually do lessons around the river mouth. The wave itself is better suited for longboarding and often folds and kinks.
